Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants England job
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says if England job is offered to him he will not refuse.
Current England manager Fabio Capello has confirmed that he will be stepping down after Euro 2012. Redknapp is one of the few who are believed to be favorite to succeed Capello. Sam Allardyce, Blackburn’s boss, being the second one who is favorite.
“If you are a Englishman then it would be very hard to turn down the offer. Managing good players is what every manager wants and we have got good players at the moment. 2012? You can’t even predict what is going to happen next week”, said Rednapp.
West Brom boss Roberto di Matteo also supports Redknapp as future England boss. He described him as “Obvious choice for Next Manager”.
“Redknapp is a great guy, he knows football well. He is doing at great job at Spurs. Everbody likes him”, commented Di Matteo.
Redknapp insisted that any replacement for 64-year-old Capello, who earns £6m a year to manage the national side, must be English.
Redknapp described why the England manager should be from England:”Why we Englishmen are wasting our time, coaching our clubs, so that one day we can coach England. Otherwise all this effort is for nothing. I want to see a English manager next. It can be anyone. There are a lot of good managers out there who can do a good job.”
